Tile Installation for Frames, Trays, and Wood Accessories

Materials needed:

100% Clear Silicone caulk / adhesive
Latex or acrylic caulk (color to match your scheme)
Liquid Dish Soap
Sponge
Rags
Mineral Spirits

Instructions:

1.
Paint or finish all wood surfaces prior to attaching tiles. We recommend painting our wood products. However they may be stained or clear finished.
2.
Clean all surfaces to which tile is to be attached.
3.
Layout tiles on surface to check fit and pattern.
4.
Use 100% Silicone caulk to adhere tile to surface. We recommend outling the back perimeter of the tile and then making an ‘X’ through the center of the tile with the Silicone. A bead 1/8" thick should be sufficient.
5.
Place the tile on the surface and apply light pressure with a twisting motion setting tile in its correct position.
6.
If Silicone gets on the finished surface of the tile or accessory clean it off immediately with mineral spirits.
7.
Space tiles maintaining equal grout lines between all tiles.
8.
Allow silicone to set for approximately one hour.
9.
With Latex or Acrylic caulk apply a thin bead of caulk between all tiles forcing caulk to the bottom of the grout line crevice.
10.
Force caulk into crevices with your index finger by first moistening the finger in a mix of liquid soap and water (50/50 solution) and then drawing it across all caulked lines. When caulk has built up on finger wipe fingers on a dry rag then remoisten finger and continue until all excess caulk has been removed.
11.
Allow caulk to set for approximately eight minutes then with a damp sponge (wring out thoroughly) wipe the tile surface diagonally to the tiles removing all caulk on surface of tiles. Keep the sponge clean by rinsing-out the accumulated caulk.
12.

When the surface has dried you will note a haze on the tiles. To remove the haze buff tiles with a dry soft rag.

You can obtain colored sanded caulk at most home centers. It is generally found in the Ceramic Tile Section.
